A blackjack is always a winner. A natural blackjack hand usually refers to hands of two cards with a 10-value card and an Ace. This pays out 3:2, provided the dealer's hand isn't a blackjack, as well. Blackjacks can also include multiple cards that equal to 21.

  • Hitting" in blackjack refers to asking for another card after getting your first two cards. Doing this will increase your hand's value. You are allowed to take a lot of hits until your hand leaves you satisfied or if you bust (by going over 21 points).
  • Standing" means you want to stay with your hand total without getting more cards. Standing is allowed anytime.
  • Now, if your dealer is showing an Ace, you can get choose to take "insurance". In a nutshell, insurance refers to a side-bet, which gives you 2:1 if the dealer holds a blackjack. Half of your initial bet can be wagered, but you lose if he doesn't have a blackjack. Winnings are paid out normally, though (1:1).
  • Surrenders" are also possible in blackjack. This means that you can fold and just lose half of your initial bet. This can only be done at the very beginning of a hand, though - right before you can split, double down or hit. Take note that surrenders cannot be done if the dealer has a face-up Ace card.
  • A "double down" refers to doubling your original bet prior to getting third card on totals that aren't natural blackjacks. After a double down, it is only possible to get one more card. Hitting can no longer be done after that. Double downs pay out even money, too (1:1).
  • Splitting" happens to be vital in blackjack because players get the chance to win more in one game. Splitting is easy: you can split your first hand if you have two cards with the exact same value from the start. After splitting the hands, a bet of the same value as the original bet will be added onto the separate hand. After that, you will get one card for every hand, as if they were individual hands.

The Hand of the Dealer

The dealer needs to follow the casino's rules, which means he has to get an extra card whenever he gets less than 16 or 16 and keep his cards if he gets more than 17 or 17.
